The Reason Why

I started Sovran Strength for the young guys watching motivational videos and doing push-ups in their room at two in the morning. I started it for them because that’s who I used to be. I started Sovran Strength cause frankly I am annoyed with the fitness industry. It is clouded by money and false information. In the fitness and nutrition world we are in a paralysis by analysis. There is too much information that doesn’t serve the crowd that is reading it. I started Sovran Strength for the people who want information, workouts, and product reviews that aren’t guided by monetary interest or useless scientific jargon. I am simply going to give you the firsthand experiences from a guy who works hard in the gym just like you. I started Sovran Strength for the people trying to find solid workouts from progressive programming. Like I said in the beginning, I started Sovran Strength for my younger self. I started it for the young man who wanted to be stronger, fitter, and was obsessed with getting better. I made this for him. When I was 12 years old, I remember filling notebooks with information about fitness and writing my own programs. I have been writing workouts and programs since I was in middle school. I suppose I was destined to do this. People like to talk about what they were like when they started their fitness journey. Here’s my story. When I started lifting as an 8-year-old, I couldn’t squat an empty barbell. This has been a long journey and I have amassed an enormous amount of information and experience in the 17 years that I have pursued athletic endeavors. I have competed in CrossFit, powerlifting, bike racing, strongman, and have pursued countless other athletic goals. All these pursuits have taught me how to use workouts and different stimulus to create the body I want. After all, your body is just a reflection of what it is put through. I have put mine through a lot and I want to teach people how to do the things I did right, and I want to steer them away from the things I did wrong.

A common question I get about Sovran Strength is, “What does Sovran mean?” Sovran means having control over yourself and your own freedom. Sovran also means excellence. I honestly believe the greatest joy in life is to be free. My hope with Sovran Strength is to teach, train, and inspire people to gain personal freedom through fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle. When you are no longer bound by your own bodily limitations, whether that is weakness or being overweight, you are able to experience so much more freedom in life. If you are physically able to do everything, you are free to do anything. Read that again. You can never experience true freedom unless you are healthy and can move without limitation. Physical movement is my deepest love and I hope I can teach people how movement can set them free.

There is a reason behind everything I do. In the Sovran Strength Logo there is a mountain. That is not there because it looks nice. It means something. The mountain is a reminder about my enormous goals in life. It’s a reminder that a little progress every day is how you achieve something great. It represents progress towards a goal because the only way to climb a mountain, no matter how daunting, is one small step after another.

When I started Sovran Strength, I told people that I didn’t want to hide behind a screen and write stuff and remain behind the scenes. I don’t want it to be a mystery who is behind the brand of Sovran Strength. I am Logan Thomas, and I will be authentically myself through this platform and the social platforms that carry the name Sovran Strength. I am going to speak what I think and say what I believe. A lot of people won’t like that but frankly I do not care. The world needs boldness, authenticity, courage, and truth. I am going to bring that to my brand.

My goal is that Sovran Strength will become my life’s work. My mission is to help people gain personal freedom through fitness. That’s my purpose. This is just the beginning. I will train people in person and online, I will offer nutrition counseling, and the ultimate goal is to one day open my dream gym with the words Sovran Strength on the side. I dream everyday about people coming up to me and telling me that my gym changed their life. That stuff is the stuff that makes me want to outwork everyone. This isn’t a dream that just lives in my head. This dream is spoken to everyone for all the world to hear. I’m serious about this.

My favorite quote was written by Francois Auguste De Chateaubriand. In the quote he says “The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play… He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing.” That is why I started Sovran Strength. I am simply pursuing my vision of excellence; I will leave it up to you to decide whether I am working or playing.
